Getting In Hunting Gear

Over the weekend, I was trying to beat the heat by staying inside. Summer is in full force here in South Carolina! Over the last few days, I have been texting a group of friends about hunting. This is a group of industry guys that I have been hunting with for years. The conversations have me excited to go hunting this fall (fingers crossed that it happens). I decided to sort out some of my gear and share with you some of my favorites.

Set of Browning clothing and Kenetrek boots, a great set of hunting gear.
Set of KUIU clothing and Kenetrek boots, a great set of hunting gear.

These are two of my favorite sets of hunting clothes. For the past few years, I have been using both Browning and KUIU. I love them both. For years, I was a camo-top-and-blue-jeans kind of hunter. This changed when I tried this new technical hunting gear. It makes those long hikes much more comfortable and the cold more bearable. The KUIU socks…….WOW, just WOW! There are other great clothing options available; these are just some that I have had the opportunity to use. This is my first pair of Kenetrek boots. I have used them for two seasons now. They’re incredible.

Kauffman knife and sheath.

Around 20 years ago, Dave Kauffman made me this knife. It has been on my side or in a pack for most of my hunts. I don’t use it on every hunt, but I do have it in camp.

Swarovski EL Range bio with a bog pod and some good bourbon, the latter being essential hunting camp gear.

I can’t say enough great things about the Swarovski EL Range. It is one of the, if not the, best hunting bino on the market. I love my bog pod. I take one everywhere I go. If you don’t believe me, call the places when I leave. They will affirm, because for some reason I tend to leave them behind! I’m on my 4th or 5th pair. I guess I’m getting old and forgetful.

And last but not least: good bourbon,  It’s a must for those evening campfire chats and celebrations, and is truly essential hunting gear!

I have made lifelong friendships in hunting camp. To me, the camaraderie and the brotherhood is what hunting is about. I hope that we all get the opportunity to get in the field this year. For me, it cannot come fast enough. It will be a place to relax and reflect on what’s good in this world, and hopefully, for a brief moment, allow us all to forget about this crazy season we are in. Get in the field with your friends and family and enjoy your time there. Please post and send your memories; I would love to see them.

Good Hunting,

Gary
